AMCA Sunshine Swap Meet and Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance

What a great weekend for Riding Into History. We went to the New Smyrna AMCA Sunshine Chapter Swap Meet on Thursday to set up. Met Buzz Kanter for lunch and talked about all the exciting events leading up to Riding Into History! Buzz’s Kickstart Only Ride from Charleston, S.C. to St. Augustine, FL. will be a great way to kick off our event. There could be up to 12 Cannonball motorcycles from the 2010 and 2012 Cannonball races. There were a least 5 Cannonball motorcycles at the AMCA Swap Meet this weekend.

Dale Walksler’s Proposal

On Sunday, I went to Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance to see a beautiful display of Ducati motorcycles. John Duss put together some exceptional motorcycles for show. The highlight of the day was meeting Dale Walksler (from Wheels Through Time Museum) as he was showing an extremely rare 1949 post war BMW Veritas. This car is one of the most rare cars in the world. It is in original untouched condition. It won first in its class! That wasn’t the most exciting thing to happen. During the Concours an airplane flew over the event with a banner flying behind it that read “Trish will you marry me?” Dale proposed to his longtime girlfriend Trish! Of course she accepted.

Meeting and spending time with Buzz and Dale this weekend let me know that we are going to have an exceptional event this year at Riding Into History. Next weekend we’re off to the Daytona 200. Stay tuned.

Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show

We had great weather for a wonderful vintage motorcycle show! There were over 250 vintage motorcycles at this very impressive show. We unveiled our new display next to the renowned motorcycle artist Don Bradley. His artwork is featured on our poster this year, as it has been the past nine years. This is his tenth anniversary with us. We are so fortunate to have him as a partner for our Concours d’Elegance. Please check out his previous artwork on our web site under Don Bradley.

Make sure you register for the Grand Marshal Dinner or the Grand Marshal Historic Ride soon. We will sell out, as these events are very popular. Motorcycle entry registration is also open online and we encourage you to upload a picture of your motorcycle for correct classification.

We will see you next at the AMCA Sunshine Chapter Swap Meet on March 8 – 10, 2013 in New Smyrna Beach. This is during Daytona Bike Week, so make sure you stop by to say hello. We will have posters, t-shirts and tickets for sale.

BMWNEF Coolest Winter Rally

Wow! The BMWNEF Coolest Winter Rally was a roaring success. There were more attendees and vendors at the 30^th annual rally than ever before. Riding Into History unveiled our new display and it was given rave revues! We had lot of interest in our event. We are now working on finalizing all the registration forms. Keep checking our web site, as registration will be up soon. This year we expect the Grand Marshal Dinner and Grand Marshal Vintage ride to sell out early so make sure you register early before we reach our limit. We’ll keep you updated as to when registration is open.

Now we are off to Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show, on Jan. 26, 2013. We look forward to using our new display at this event, as it is an outdoor venue. We will be selling past years’ posters and tickets to Riding Into History. Please come by and say hello.

Now that the holidays are behind us, we are moving forward with our plans for the 2013 Riding Into History event. Posters and T-shirts should be ready at the end of the month. Registration for motorcycle entries will also be ready at the end of January. We are busy getting ready for the BMW Northeast Florida Winter Rally Jan. 18-20, 2013 at Camp Blanding and we will also be at Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show Jan. 26, 2013. Please come see us if you are at any of these events!

Things are getting busy with the Holidays upon us. My husband Chris and other Riding Into History members participated in the “Sun Your Buns” Rally in Venice, FL. They had a great time camping out, eating great food, watching motorcycle movies and visiting with other motorcycle enthusiasts. This rally is a great place to camp!

January will be a busy month for Riding Into History. Look for us at the BMW Northeast Florida Winter Rally at Camp Blanding, FL on January 18-20, 2013. We will also be at the Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show on January 26, 2013. Look for us at these events. We have a brand new display that we’re very excited about! Merry Holidays to all and a Happy New Year!

I’m very excited about our 14^th annual Riding Into History event and am honored to be this year’s chairman. My husband, Chris Alley will be helping me as vice-chairman. We are very lucky to have two such esteemed Grand Marshals this year, Dale Walksler of Wheels Through Time museum, and his close friend, American Iron Magazine publisher Buzz Kanter.

Volunteer members and participants of Riding Into History took part in the Cannonball Motorcycle Coast to Coast Endurance run this September. They took third place out of over 70 motorcycles 1930 or earlier from all over the world. The 1929 BMW R11 motorcycle was from Jack Well’s collection. Norm Nelson was the rider. Well done to Cannonball Team 23!

The next few months will be busy planning and organizing for our 14^th annual event. Please look for me or other members of Riding Into History at different motorcycle events over the next few months. We will be at the Sun Your Buns Rally in Venice, FL in Nov., BMW Northeast Florida Winter Rally at Camp Blanding, FL, Jan. 16-20, 2013, Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show in Dania Beach, FL, Daytona Bike Week, in March and the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, March 10, 2013. Look forward to seeing you at these events and can’t wait for our prestigious event on May 18, 2013.
